Els played some great stuff in the Open championship at Hoylake but ultimately had to settle for third place behind Tiger Woods and Chris DiMarco. The South African looks back to somewhere near his peak judged by that and he was rightfully delighted with his best display of the year in a major. He will be looking to finish strongly at Medinah and top five finishes from his past two PGAs - he missed last year after knee surgery - suggest he is very much a man to be reckoned with once more.
